United took 10th minute lead against the Blues as Luis Nani received the ball in an inside-left position, shifted the ball onto his right, and fired a low shot into Cech’s far post. The Blues equalised in the 52nd minute when Ben Foster could only palm a cross into Riccardo Carvalho’s direction and the centre-half converted from 6-yards. The comeback was complete in controversial circumstances in the 71st minute, Ballack body-checked Evra near the Pensioners box and from the resulting clearance Drogba set up Frank Lampard to blast a shot past a weak-wristed Foster. In injury time United equalised with their own controversial goal, Giggs played an offside Wayne Rooney through on goal and the number ten stroked the ball into the far corner. Giggs and Evra (terrible effort) missed in the shootout, while Chelsea scored four from four.
